Cold Weather Alerts

A Cold weather health watch system operates in England from 1 November to 31 March every year in association with UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA).

Our weather warnings comprise five levels based on impact thresholds. The thresholds have been developed to trigger a warning when severe weather is likely to cause a risk to human life, substantial disruption to travel and energy supplies and possibly widespread damage to property and infrastructure. The warnings account for flooding and other weather threats, such as thunderstorms, strong winds and heavy snowfall.

These warnings are not meant to replace Government warnings from the Met Office or the Environment Agency.

Our warnings may NOT be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed in whole or part except for personal use.

We welcome your feedback, suggestion or complaint about any aspect of our warnings. You can telephone us at any time on 01376 800000 or contact us securely online.

💡
Whilst we provide a comprehensive weather forecast service for Essex, we urge visitors to check the Met Office website regularly for any severe weather warnings and the Environment Agency website for any flood warnings that may affect the surrounding areas.
